The Matchplay Masters is the Major with the most twists and turns, the most clutch moments, the craziest mathematical permutations, and it’s the only Major that is CURSED! The Round Robins have enough highlights in them for a whole tourney, sometimes there are playoffs, and then there’s the Final on top of that. Wow.
After each year’s round robin heroics, here’s how the first eight editions of the Final went down.
He’s already got three of the four Majors. Can Leroy make the final and grab his career slam here at the 2019 Matchplay Masters? He may need some of his patented chip-ins because the AURORA CURSE has intensified this year (TJ now channelling as well).
Let’s check out the round robins and see who makes it through!
Ian, driving the green on a shortie par four at Bothwell.
Ian Hermanis, aka the Herminator, was the fifth member to join the GWT, and has been a crowd and player favourite ever since.
The short 11th at Tasmania GC. Into the wind every time.
The 2018 MM got off to a slow and wet start, with defending champ Basil struggling to find anyone brave enough to play him, Leroy pinging a hammy, and then a huge storm knocking out Kingston Beach Golf Course for a month or two – which meant that three time Champ Felix stayed in the sheds til June.
It also saw the introduction of the new Fairness in Handicapping initiative, which will allow for greater competitiveness from the high handicappers, and hopefully see them snagging their first Majors soon.
Bas and Felix – legends of the GWT
World Number One Basil Beaver badly wants a win here to be the first Gent to grab a Career Slam. Felix is not inclined to lose, being the winner of the past 3 MM Finals and still channelling the Aurora Curse. He’s also sporting an unwashed shirt through the entire MM series (5 months) to add extra mojo and whiffo.
Can Basil do it? Or will Felix go B2B2B2B?
Follow all the action from another classic Gentlepersons’ World Tour Matchplay Masters Final, the 6th instalment.
Gaz won his first ever MM match with this clutch up and down on the last at the New Norfik Super Sunday. Put it right in the heart of the hole. Congrats Good Doctor!
A massive field of 8 Gents, including Dr Gaz, Matt, Ian and (briefly) Stu – as well as the top 4 in the World – assembled to take on the 2017 Matchplay Masters, presented by the Aurora Curse.
Would the the upper atmospheric ionization effect finally loses its hold on the other Gents this year? Could the Aurora Curse be broken? Not if Felix and his stinky unwashed shirt (for extra luck) have anything to say about it……
